A 5 cm welt knitted with fewer elastane courses and no separate elastic thread, so it holds by friction across a wider band rather than by tension across a narrow one.

It leaves less of a ring at the end of the day. It also slides down more readily if you are moving a lot. Those are the same property seen from two sides.
